Over the long weekend, I decided to go across Iowa to the other river and visit my friend in Clinton, IA.
The drive took about 5 hours and right when I got into town, I noticed a billboard advertising the “Saw Mill Museum”.
I audibly said “The F— is a sawmill museum and why does it need to exist?”
Almost immediately I decided I had to go, just for the experience and the absurdity. After I met with my friend, I found out she had also never been to this place either, ever, even after living there for almost 21 years.
After a bunch of begging and convincing, I talked her into going with me to this weirdly specific place. It was actually amazing.
Join me on my trip through The Saw Mill Museum
The very first thing you see upon parking. Going to be honest, I love that logo.
The very second thing you see right before going inside. I couldn't help myself.
This is the original mill from The Struve Mill. I can't remember the dude's first name but Struve was one of the four "Mill Kings" in the Clinton area. Also one of the many millionaires.
All of this equipment actually survived a pretty gnarly fire and the tour guide told us they repaint it every so often because the scorch marks keep coming back. If I were them I'd keep them there, it looks cooler.
This is the mill they have on sight. During the summer they..wait for it..MILL THINGS> who'd have thunk?
IT's also inside a separate room with super thick glass because it's loud as hell and can make you go deaf.
This is the engine that powers the mill..I can see how someone could loose their hearing.
Some person made an eagle with a chainsaw and I just thought it was rad.
The next few images will go into more detail about this whole setup. I genuinely learned a lot here. And yes, you read that right, it was most definitely powered by goat.
The goat goes on the far left tradmill.

This is just a horse I found. Tried to feed him carrots, but he didn't seem very hungry.
