Every Sunday I get the alert that tells me my weekly averages for time spent on my phone, and every week I am stunned! I can’t really be spending 2-3 hours a day just on my phone, right?
Turns out we lose all track of time when we’re on social media. It’s kinda like how the casinos don’t have any clocks so you never know what time it is and, much like gambling, social media hits the same receptors in the brain that can make it very addictive.
So here are a few tips that can make you happier and healthier!
Just 20 Minutes Less on Facebook
A team of German Psychologists (so you know they’re good) conducted a study recently to determine if small changes could make a big difference.
The results? Yes. Just 20 minutes less of Facebook over a 2 week period had a dramatic impact on the happiness, health, and well-being!
How Much Do We Need to Cut Back?
Participants in this study spent an average of 1 hour each day on social media, but the real number for most people is over 2.5 hours every day.
Participants who reduced their time on Facebook by just 20 minutes a day reported more physical activity, fewer cigarettes smoked, less depressive symptoms, and more overall satisfaction with life.
The Bottom Line
With everything in life you can create major improvements with minor adjustments. The biggest factor is consistency. Eating healthy once a week won’t do much but if you improve your diet by just a little bit and do it every day…You’ll see amazing results.
Try setting your phone down when you get home and make a rule that you won’t check social media until the next day. Or if that’s too much, just try to create boundaries where you won’t check social media (i.e. From 9-11am I won’t check socials)
Good luck, and be sure to follow us on Facebook! 😉
