America's Top Cities For A Quickie…Vacation

By News Aug 12, 2020 | 7:14 AM

While there’s nothing better than having a full week off from work for vacation,  not everyone has the luxury of being able to get that much time off. Plus, with the coronavirus, not that many people are actually taking real vacations this year anyway. Well, just because long trips may not be in the cards, it doesn’t mean folks aren’t getting away, and it turns out most people actually prefer a quick jaunt rather than a longer trip.

For the second year in a row, Hotwire has released their “America’s Best Cities for a Quickie Index,” with the “quickie” being a vacation, not some nookie, although there’s nothing stopping that from happening on the trip.

  • Due to the current climate, factors that went into choosing a city include driveability (30%), value (30%), things to do (30%) and population (10%).
  • Top “Quickie” cities include:
    • Major Metropolis – Las Vegas tops the list, followed by San Francisco and Washington DC.
    • Mid-Sized Must-See – St. Louis tops the list, followed by Tampa and Atlanta.
    • Small Town Favorites – Orlando tops the list, followed by Scottsdale, Arizona and Fort Lauderdale.
    • Itty Bitty City – Charleston, South Carolina is on top, followed by Newport Beach and Santa Barbara, California.

A new survey by Hotwire also found that:

  • 81% of people say that post-quarantine, they prefer the idea of a short local trip to a longer vacation.
  • Quick trips will be different this year than in previous years though:
    • 50% of folks will be driving to their destination.
    • 43% plan on visiting less crowded spots.
    • 29% took time to research hotels’ cleanliness procedures.
    • 26% plan on travelling closer to home in case of emergency
